Chicago Studio

In the Fall of 2017, as part of our ongoing Chicago Program, MUP students joined with graduate students from the School of Architecture and Department of Landscape Architecture for a joint studio focused on Chicago's Central Manufacturing District. This has involved close collaboration between MUP and MLA students on the Urbana-Champaign campus, Architecture students spending the semester in the School of Architecture's studio space in Chicago, two MUP students who are spending the semester in Chicago, and a graduate planning studio at UI Chicago. Under the guidance of three instructors, students have built skills within their own disciplines and have shared their insights with students from the other two disciplines. Working closely with the City of Chicago's Department of Planning and Development, five interdisciplinary student teams have created design proposals for future uses in the CMD along the South Fork of the Chicago River. Teams have collaborated in person, remotely, and via five all-day sessions in Chicago. For updates throughout the semester, see here.
