STUDENTS SEEKING TO VISIT UIUC
UNDER THE NEURUS PROGRAM
There are three major steps in the NEURUS admissions process for students seeking to participate in the Exchange Fellows program. In the first step, the student contacts his or her home university program director and completes any internal (home university) NEURUS application. In the second step, the home university program director initiates contact with the proposed host university program director to discuss the student's research and study interests, confirm the placement of the student, and confirm advising arrangements. Joint home/host university approval of each proposed exchange visit is essential to ensure that each Exchange Fellow's research interests will be well served by the host university faculty, campus and location. In the third step, the student completes any administrative applications and forms required by the host university as a condition for entry as a nondegree visiting student.
Currently enrolled students from European or Asian NEURUS partners seeking to visit UIUC that have already completed the first two steps of the application process as described above must print out and complete an International Nondegree Exchange Application.
NOTE: The application should NOT be mailed to UIUC Admissions and records. Instead, send the application to:

Housing
Visiting NEURUS students should not sign any contracts with University Housing until they have contacted Jane Terry about their housing options in the Urbana-Champaign area. UIUC Student Housing contracts are binding (once signed, a $2,000 fee is required to break the contract). Many NEURUS students find that private rental housing is superior to on-campus housing in both cost and conditions. Some information about housing options is available from the UIUC Student Planning Organization. Information on housing options is also available from the UIUC Study Abroad Office.
Fees
Although exchange students pay tuition to their home institutions, most exchange agreements do not cover all student fees. This page provides a breakdown of the fees UIUC charges all students, including foreign students visiting on exchange. The largest fees cover provision of health services for students as well as campus recreation and athletic facilities.
